President, Jeffrey Alexander, Truckee Meadows Community College

Dr. Jeffrey Alexander was appointed president of Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC), effective July 1, 2025. 

Alexander previously served as Vice President of Academic Affairs at TMCC, where he led the college’s instructional programs, academic support services, and strategic workforce initiatives. A scholar and seasoned administrator, Alexander has held leadership positions at Pueblo Community College in Colorado and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, where he also earned tenure as a faculty member. 

Alexander holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of British Columbia. 

President, Mark Blegen, Linfield University

Dr. Mark Blegen became president of Linfield University on July 1, 2025.

Blegen previously served as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Carroll University. Prior to Carroll University, Blegen held posts at St. Catherine University in Minnesota. He served as associate dean, then dean of health sciences at the Henrietta Schmoll School of Health Sciences and chaired the Department of Nutrition and Exercise Science.

Blegen holds a doctorate in exercise physiology from Kent State University, a master’s degree in exercise physiology from St. Cloud University and a B.A. in sports science with a sports medicine focus from St. Olaf College.

President, Elizabeth “Betsy” Cantwell, Washington State University

Dr. Elizabeth “Betsy” Cantwell became president of Washington State University on April 1, 2025. She is the first woman to hold the position in the university’s 135-year history. 

Cantwell previously served as president of Utah State University (USU). Prior to her role at USU, Cantwell held senior leadership positions in research and innovation at the University of Arizona and Arizona State University. 

Cantwell holds a doctorate in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley; an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School; and a bachelor’s degree in human behavior from the University of Chicago. 

President, Mark DeMichael, Northwest Nazarene University

Dr. Mark DeMichael stepped into office as the 14th president of Northwest Nazarene University in the Summer of 2025. 

Before coming to NNU, DeMichael served at Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) for over 25 years, most recently as Vice President of Student Development and Athletics. Before his tenure at IWU, DeMichael spent several years as a faculty member and head baseball coach at Eastern Nazarene College, his alma mater. 

DeMichael holds an Ed.D. in educational leadership from the University of the Cumberlands, an M.Ed. in physical education from Azusa Pacific University, and a B.S. in physical education from Eastern Nazarene College. 

President, Christopher Gilmer, Heritage University

Dr. Christopher Gilmer officially started his role as the fourth president of Heritage University on July 1, 2025. 

Gilmer has served as president of two Appalachian universities, West Virginia University at Parkersburg and West Virginia University Potomac State College. He has served as a faculty member and administrator at three Historically Black Colleges and Universities including Tougaloo College in Jackson, Mississippi, where he was most recently the Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and Social Justice. He has also served on that college’s Board of Trustees. 

Gilmer has also served at a Hispanic-serving institution, Adams State University in Colorado, where he was Vice President for Academic Affairs. He is the founder of the National Institutes for Historically Underserved Students. 

Gilmer holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Southern Mississippi, an M.A. in English from Mississippi College, and a B.S. in English from the University of Southern Mississippi. 

Interim Co-President, Jennifer Glowienka, Carroll College

Dr. Jennifer Glowienka was appointed interim co-president of Carroll College for the 2025-26 academic year.  

Glowienka previously served as the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at Carroll College since July 2021. A member of the Carroll faculty since 2003, Glowienka brings over two decades of experience in academic leadership and teaching. Her previous roles at Carroll include Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, Assistant Dean of Instruction, and Chair of the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences. 

Glowienka holds a Ph.D. in evolutionary botany from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a B.S. in biology from Boise State University. 

Interim President, Caroline Goulet, University of Providence

Dr. Caroline Goulet was appointed interim president of the University of Providence, effective July 1, 2025.  

Goulet has been serving as the University of Providence’s Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs since July 2024. Before her tenure at the University of Providence, Dr. Goulet served as Associate Provost for the Health Professions and Professor at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. 

Goulet holds a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences from the Université de Montréal, an M.S. in applied biomedical engineering, and B.S. in physical therapy from McGill University. 

President, Justin Guillory, Whatcom Community College

Dr. Justin Guillory became the fifth president of Whatcom Community College on May 1, 2025. 

Guillory has over 20 years of experience in higher education, 18 of which include serving in various capacities at Northwest Indian College, including 12 years as the president. Additional experience includes serving as a graduate assistant/mentor program coordinator within the Office of Multicultural Student Services at Washington State University. 

Guillory holds a Ph.D. in higher education administration, a master’s degree from Washington State University, and a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Washington University.

Interim President, Joan Hanten, Olympic College

Joan Hanten began her tenure as interim president of Olympic College on June 16, 2025.  

Hanten brings nearly two decades of leadership experience at Olympic College, having served in several key roles, including Special Projects Administrator, Office of the President; Interim Vice President, Human Resources; Vice President, College Relations; and Executive Director, Institutional Advancement and Olympic College Foundation. 

Hanten holds a J.D. from Seattle University School of Law and a B.A. in interdisciplinary studies from the University of Portland. 

Interim President and CEO, Joshua Knotts, Joyce University of Nursing and Health Sciences

Joshua Knotts was appointed interim president and CEO of Joyce University of Nursing and Health Sciences, effective March 22, 2025.  

Knotts, who most recently served as Senior Vice President of Strategy and Experience, brings more than a decade of leadership experience at Joyce University. Since joining the institution in 2012 – then known as Ameritech College of Healthcare – he has held various roles with increasing responsibility.

Knotts holds an MBA from Liberty University and a B.S. in advertising and public relations from the University of Southern Indiana.

Chancellor, Johnny MacLean, Montana Technological University

Dr. Johnny MacLean was selected as the 13th chancellor of Montana Technological University, beginning June 1, 2025. 

Previously, MacLean was Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Montana Western (UMW). Before joining UMW in 2022, MacLean served in the Office of the Provost at Southern Utah University, where he was also a tenured faculty member in geology.  

MacLean holds a Ph.D. in geosciences from the University of Montana, an M.S. in earth science from Syracuse University, and a B.S. in geology from Furman University. 

Interim President, Patrick McEachern, Spokane Falls Community College

Patrick McEachern began serving as interim president of Spokane Falls Community College, effective July 1. 

Previously, McEachern was Vice President of Student Affairs. McEachern joined Spokane Colleges as an instructional designer in 2014 and has served in several leadership roles at the college including Associate Provost. 

McEachern holds an M.Ed. in instructional design, a B.A. in secondary education, and an A.A. from Spokane Falls Community College. McEachern is a Ph.D. candidate in Oregon State University’s Adult and Higher Education program, with an emphasis in community college leadership. 

President, Michael M. Munson, Salish Kootenai College

Dr. Michael M. Munson became the sixth president of Salish Kootenai College on June 23, 2025. 

Munson brings more than two decades of experience in higher education, leadership, and Native-serving institutions. She most recently served as Associate Vice-Provost of Tribal Research and Graduate Education at Washington State University, Pullman.  

Munson holds a B.A. in elementary education and an Ed.D. in curriculum and instruction from the University of Montana. 

President, Katia Passerini, Gonzaga University

Dr. Katia Passerini became president of Gonzaga University on July 15, 2025.  

Passerini most recently served at Seton Hall University in New Jersey as provost and senior executive vice president from 2020-2025, a tenure that included a one-year stint as Seton Hall’s interim president during the 2023-24 academic year. 

Passerini holds MBA and Ph.D. degrees from The George Washington University, and a Certificate in Business Project Management from New York University, and undergraduate degrees in political science (LUISS University, Italy) and economics (University of Rome Tor Vergata, Italy). She was a Fulbright Student Scholar and Fulbright Administrator Scholar, as well as an Italian National Research Council Fellow. 

President, Greg Pereira, Central Oregon Community College

Dr. Greg Pereira became the seventh president of Central Oregon Community College (COCC) in July 2025.  

Prior to joining COCC, Pereira served as Vice President for Student Affairs at Rio Salado College, where he also served as Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean of Academic Affairs and Community Development, Associate Dean of Instruction and Community Development, and Director of Community Partnership Programs. 

Pereira holds an Ed.D. from Arizona State University, an M.A. in leadership from Azusa Pacific University, and a B.A. in communication studies. 

Interim President, Joseph E. Pizzorno, Bastyr University

Dr. Joseph E. Pizzorno became interim president of Bastyr University, effective July 7, 2025.  

Pizzorno is the co-founder and founding president of Bastyr University. He led the effort to make Bastyr University the first accredited college of naturopathic medicine in the United States. He is an internationally recognized leader in environmental, functional, and integrative medicine. 

Pizzorno holds an N.D. from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine and a B.S. from Harvey Mudd College.   

Interim President, Jeremiah Shinn, Boise State University

Dr. Jeremiah Shinn became interim president of Boise State University in May 2025.  

Shinn previously served as Boise State’s Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment management. He returned to Boise State in early 2023 after serving as Vice President for Student affairs at Louisiana State University for three and a half years. Prior to Louisiana State University, Shinn worked in various roles at Boise State starting in 2010. In addition, he has taught at the graduate and undergraduate levels throughout his academic career.   

Shinn holds a Ph.D. in educational leadership and administration from Eastern Michigan University, an M.A. in higher education administration from the University of Michigan, and a B.S. in natural sciences from Arkansas Tech University. 

President, Shane B. Smeed, Utah Tech University

Shane B. Smeed became president of Utah Tech University on May 1, 2025.  

Smeed previously served as president of Park University, where he led initiatives focused on student success, institutional excellence and workforce development. 

Smeed holds an M.A. in student personnel administration from Saint Louis University and an MBA from Keller Graduate School of Management. He also holds a B.A. in business operations from DeVry Institute of Technology. 

Interim President, Alan L. Smith, Utah State University

Dr. Alan L. Smith was appointed interim president of Utah State University (USU), effective Spring 2025.  

Smith previously served as dean of the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services at USU. Prior to joining USU, he held leadership roles at Michigan State University and Purdue University and is a Fellow of the National Academy of Kinesiology.  

Smith holds a Ph.D. in exercise and movement science from the University of Oregon, an M.S. in exercise and sport science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a B.A. in psychology from the University of Rochester. 

President, Brock Tessman, Montana State University – Bozeman

Dr. Brock Tessman became the 13th president of Montana State University – Bozeman on July 1, 2025.  

Previously, Tessman served as president of Northern Michigan University (NMU). Prior to his presidency at NMU, Tessman held several prominent roles within higher education, including Deputy Commissioner for Academic Affairs in the Montana University System and Dean of the Davidson Honors College at the University of Montana.  

Tessman earned both his master’s and doctoral degrees in political science from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and his bachelor’s degree in international relations from Brown University. 

President, Lexie Tom, Northwest Indian College

Lexie Tom was appointed president of Northwest Indian College (NWIC), effective May 2025.  

Tom previously served as interim president of NWIC. Prior to this appointment, Tom served as Acting Director of the Lummi Nation Educational System, which includes Lummi Nation K-12 School, the Early Learning Programs, Head Start program, Johnson O’Malley education program, and partnerships with all public schools that enroll Lummi children.    

Tom holds a doctoral degree in indigenous studies from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, an M.A. in public administration from Evergreen State College, a B.A. in anthropology from Western Washington University, and is a proud graduate of Northwest Indian College. 

Interim Co-President, Austin Vetter, Carroll College

Bishop Austin Vetter was appointed interim co-president of Carroll College for the 2025-26 academic year. 

Ordained a priest in 1993, Vetter has served in numerous leadership roles, including Rector of the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Bismarck and Director of Spiritual Formation at the Pontifical North American College in Rome. As Bishop of Helena, he has played a key role in stewarding the Diocese’s mission, overseeing strategic planning, parish development, and clergy support, while advancing initiatives that align with the Church’s long-term goals. 

Vetter earned a B.A. in philosophy from Cardinal Muench Seminary and continued his theological studies at the Pontifical North American College and the University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome. 

Interim President, Douglas S. Wade, Warner Pacific University

Douglas S. Wade was appointed interim president of Warner Pacific University on June 27, 2025.  

Wade previously served as acting president of WPU, beginning April 2025. He is currently the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, a role he will continue to hold in his interim presidency. He brings over two decades of higher education leadership experience to this expanded responsibility. 

Wade holds an M.A. in finance from the Wharton School and a B.A. in economics from the University of Chicago.  

President, Suzanne Walsh, City University of Seattle

Suzanne Walsh was appointed president of City University of Seattle, effective July 1, 2025. 

Walsh previously served as President of Bennett College, a historically Black liberal arts college for women. Prior, she served as the Deputy Director of Postsecondary Success at the Gates Foundation and held key positions at the Lumina Foundation and The Heinz Endowments. Throughout her career, she has championed initiatives to improve educational outcomes for underserved and non-traditional learners, focusing on student success and socioeconomic mobility. 

Walsh holds a juris doctorate and master’s in social work from Case Western Reserve University, a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University, and an associate degree in applied science from Hudson Valley Community College.

Officer in Charge, Chris L. Heavey, University of Nevada, Las Vegas 

Dr. Chris L. Heavey was appointed Officer in Charge of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) on March 4, 2025. The officer in charge exercises the role of the president until the Nevada Board of Regents appoints a new acting, interim or permanent president. 

Prior to this appointment, Dr. Heavey was the Executive Vice President and Provost at the UNLV. Dr. Heavey has been at UNLV for more than 30 years, during which time he has been recognized for his award-winning work. He has also held a variety of leadership and administrative positions over his 

career, including Senior Vice Provost, Dean, Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, Director of General Education, Associate Dean, Interim Department Chair, and President of the Nevada State Psychology Board.  

He received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles. He also holds a master’s degree from UCLA and a bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Cruz. 

 

Interim President, Chantae Recasner, Seattle Central College 

Dr. Chantae Recasner was appointed interim president of Seattle Central College on December 5, 2024. 

Dr. Recasner joined Seattle Central College in 2023 from Western Governors University (WGU), where she served as the Equity Research Manager. With the support of data and research scientists, Dr. Recasner led a team of faculty research fellows that helped close achievement gaps at the university. Prior to WGU, Dr. Recasner served as Dean for Academic Success at Northeast Lakeview College, one of five independently accredited colleges in the Alamo Colleges District. She oversaw Distance Learning/Instructional Innovation, Library Services, Academic Support, Dual Credit, and Grants & Scholarships. Prior to her appointment as interim president, Dr. Recasner served at the Vice President of Instruction at Seattle Central.  

She earned her PhD in Education for the University of Cincinnati, and her three master’s degrees are from The Ohio State University in Business Operational Excellence, Teaching & Learning and African American & African Studies. She earned a BA in English from Loyola University New Orleans.

President, Nathan Long, University of Western States 

University of Western States appointed of Nathan Long, Ed.D., as president, effective October 1, 2024. 

Long has served as interim president of the institution since June. Prior to UWS, Long served as president of Saybrook University. 

Long holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Performance, a Master of Education in Educational Studies with cognates in educational psychology and sociology, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Studies, with core concentrations in history, sociology, and peace and urban education. 

 

President, Marshall Mease Roache, Oregon Coast Community College

The Oregon Coast Community College (OCCC) Board of Education announced the appointment of Marshall Mease Roache as the College’s next president, beginning January 1, 2025.  

Roache currently the Executive Dean of Career and Technical Education and Public Safety at Chemeketa Community College. 

Roache holds a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Fort Hays State University and a Bachelor’s in English from the University of Oregon. He is currently completing his Doctorate in Education at the University of Southern Mississippi, with an expected completion date in December 2024. 

 

Interim President, Steve Stadum, Oregon Health & Science University

The Oregon Health & Science University board of directors approved a resolution to appoint Steve Stadum, J.D., interim president of the academic health center, effective November 5, 2024.   

Stadum is a former OHSU leader with 20-plus years of experience leading mission-focused organizations at the intersection of healthcare, education, research, and business. After joining OHSU in 1999, he served in several leadership roles, including general counsel, chief administration officer, and corporate secretary, executive vice president, and chief operating officer for the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute. 

In 2016, Stadum moved to Fred Hutch Cancer Center in Seattle, Washington, where he held the positions of executive vice president and chief operating officer, chief integration officer, special adviser to the director, until his retirement in September 2024. 

 

Interim President, Lexie Tom, Northwest Indian College 

The Northwest Indian College Board of Trustees appointed Lexie Tom as the Interim President of Northwest Indian College, effective October 10, 2024.

President, Jarrod Hogue, Clatsop Community College 

Jarrod Hogue became president of Clatsop Community College on August 21, 2024.   

Prior to his appointment at Clatsop Community College, Hogue was the principal of Math Mentors, a math tutoring company he founded in 2022. He previously spent 14 years working at Mount Hood Community College, serving as executive dean and chief academic officer and overseeing career and technical education, workforce development, and high school and community education programs. 

Hogue holds an M.S. in teaching and learning from Northern State University and a B.S. in criminal justice from Western Oregon University. 

 

Interim President, Emily Parkhurst, Cornish College of the Arts 

Emily Parkhurst was appointed interim president of Cornish College in July 2024. Previously, Parkhurst served on the Cornish College Board for five years, two of which she acted as chairperson. 

Parkhurst is the founder and CEO of Formidable, a media company geared toward high-level women executives. Parkhurst spent her early career as an adjunct professor at several colleges in Maine, where she also covered education at a newspaper in Falmouth. Parkhurst moved to Seattle in 2012, and eventually served as a reporter, editor, and then publisher at the Puget Sound Business Journal. She is also a former professional musician.  

She holds a master’s degree in creative writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts and a Bachelor’s of Music in Clarinet Performance from the University of Southern Maine. 

 

Interim President, Teresa Rich, Yakima Valley College 

Teresa Rich was appointed interim president of Yakima Valley College in July 2024. She has more than two decades of experience in higher education accounting and administrative services, including 23 years at YVC, 18 of those as vice president for administrative services. She also serves as a member of the Washington Community and Technical College Strategic Technology Advisory Committee, focused on making statewide recommendations for the use of technology in Washington state community and technical colleges.  

Rich has worked extensively in safety, security and emergency preparedness in higher education, is a member of the Association of Government Accountants and Rotary International, and serves on the board for Apprisen, a national non-profit focusing on consumer credit counseling. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from Central Washington University and a PhD in education with a focus on community college leadership from Oregon State University.

President, Lori Barber, College of Eastern Idaho 

The College of Eastern Idaho Board of Trustees appointed Dr. Lori Barber as president of CEI, effective August 1, 2024. Dr. Barber has served as Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs at the College of Eastern Idaho since 2019. Previously, Dr. Barber served as the Dean of General Education at CEI. 

Dr. Barber earned a Doctor of Education in Leadership and Innovation from Arizona State University; a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies in History and Anthropology from Idaho State University; and a Bachelor of Arts and Letters in History from Idaho State University.

 

President, Monica Brown, South Seattle College 

Dr. Monica Brown, has been named South Seattle College’s next president, effective August 1, 2024. 

Dr. Brown brings nearly two decades of progressive leadership experience in the community college environment and eight years at the senior level to her new role at SSC. She has worked at four-year and two-year institutions with diverse student, faculty, and staff populations. Her eclectic background derives from her experiences in academic affairs, continuing education, and student affairs. 

Dr. Brown earned a doctorate in higher education administration from Morgan State University, a master of ats in counseling from Trinity College and a bachelor of arts from Georgetown University. 

 

President, William Brownsberger, Saint Martin’s University 

Dr. William “Bill” Brownsberger, STD, was selected as the president of Saint Martin’s University. Dr. Brownsberger currently serves as the vice president of academic affairs and workforce solutions at Mountain Empire Community College in Virginia.  

Dr. Brownsberger earned his Doctor of Sacred Theology and his Licentiate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy. He earned his Master of Arts in Theology from The Catholic University of America and his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Dallas. 

 

President, Alex Bryan, Walla Walla University 

Dr. Alex Bryan was elected to be Walla Walla University’s president on May 6, 2024. 

In 2018, Dr. Bryan joined Adventist Health, where he served as senior vice president and chief mission officer, leading strategy and discourse about ethics, alignment to mission, spiritual care, relationship to faith communities, global mission, theological foundations of healthcare, and also overseeing philanthropy and grants initiatives. 

Bryan earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in history and religion from Southern Adventist University, a Master of Divinity degree from Andrews University, a Doctor of Ministry degree from George Fox University, and a Master of Science degree in Bioethics from Albany Medical College. 

 

Interim President, Amber Donnelli, Great Basin College 

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Board of Regents has confirmed the appointment of Dr. Amber Donnelli as interim president of Great Basin College, effective July 1, 2024. 

Dr. Donnelli started her higher education journey at Great Basin College, earning her Associate of Science in Nursing.  Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Nevada and certified as a Nurse Educator (CNE) by the National League for Nursing, Dr. Donnelli brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her leadership roles. 

She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Education from UNLV, a Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in Nursing Education from the University of Phoenix, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the same institution. 

 

President-Rector, Jeff Eirvin, Mount Angel Seminary 

Fr. Jeff Eirvin has been appointed as President-Rector at Mount Angel Seminary. 

Ordained for the Archdiocese of Portland in 2012, Fr. Eirvin has been pastor of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Parish in Portland since 2022. He was Director of Vocations for the Archdiocese from 2014 to 2022 and an Adjunct Professor at Mount Angel Seminary from 2014 to 2017. 

 

Acting President, William Kibler, College of Southern Nevada 

The Nevada System of Higher Education approved the appointment of Dr. William L. Kibler as Acting President of the College of Southern Nevada. 

Dr. Kibler brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served in various leadership positions in higher education institutions across the country. His leadership roles have encompassed overseeing diverse divisions, managing significant budgets, and spearheading strategic initiatives to enhance academic quality, student engagement, and institutional effectiveness. 

Dr. Kibler holds multiple degrees including a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University. 

 

President, Chad Knudson, Dawson Community College 

Mr. Chad Knudson became president of Dawson Community College on April 8, 2024, following over a decade of service as a member and chair of the college’s Board of Trustees. 

Mr. Knudson received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Valparaiso University. After a career in the private sector, he was the publisher and general manager for eight Adams Publishing Group newspapers in Eastern Montana, including the Glendive Ranger-Review. 

 

President, Bradley Lane, Seattle Central College 

Dr. Bradley Lane has been named the president of Seattle Central College.  

Dr. Lane has held a variety of faculty and administrative appointments at the Seattle Colleges, Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana, and Vanderbilt University. Most recently, he served as Vice President for Academic Affairs at Santa Monica College in California. At Seattle Central, Dr. Lane previously served as Executive Vice President of Instruction, Finance, and Planning; Vice President of Instruction, Executive Dean for Academic Affairs; and Dean of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, in addition to teaching classes in English, Humanities, and Gender and Women Studies. 

Dr. Lane holds a master’s degree in Teaching, Learning, and Diversity from Peabody College at Vanderbilt and a Ph.D. in Communication and Culture and Gender Studies from Indiana University. 

 

President, Jenni Martin, Spokane Community College 

Dr. Jenni Martin was selected as the president of Spokane Community College. Dr. Martin has been serving as SCC acting president since May 2023. Before joining Community Colleges of Spokane, Dr. Martin was a physical education faculty member and head coach for women’s soccer at Eastern Washington University.  

Dr. Martin completed her Ed.D. at Northeastern University in Higher Education Administration, her Master of Education in Adult Education at Eastern Washington University, and her Bachelor of Arts in History at Gonzaga University. She also took part in the Washington Executive Leadership Academy (WELA).

 

Interim President, Michael Munson, Salish Kootenai College 

The Salish Kootenai College board of directors named Dr. Michael Munson, former Vice President of Academic Affairs, as the current interim president. 

Dr. Munson graduated from the University of Montana with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master of education in curriculum and instruction, focusing on Indian Education and science. Upon graduating, with her bachelor’s, she served as a middle school teacher for approximately three and a half years. When she graduated with her master’s, Dr. Munson went on to serve communities, schools, teachers, and students throughout Montana in her roles as Indian Education Implementation Specialist and American Indian Student Achievement Specialist with the Montana Office of Public Instruction. 

 

President, Gregory Peterson, Salt Lake Community College 

Dr. Gregory Peterson was selected as the president of Salt Lake Community College.

Throughout his career, Dr. Peterson has led key efforts in student learning and success impacting over 100,000 students, including developing transfer partnerships and college promise programs at multiple institutions and launching the first community college Artificial Intelligence program in the nation.  

Peterson holds a doctorate in educational administration with an emphasis in community college leadership from the University of Texas at Austin; a master’s degree in postsecondary, adult, and continuing education from Portland State University; and a bachelor’s degree in English from Brigham Young University. 

 

President, Craig Smith, Fort Peck Community College 

Fort Peck Community College selected Craig Smith as the new president of Fort Peck Community College on May 23, 2024. Smith was most recently the Vice President for Institutional Development & Research at FPCC for the past 14 years. 

Smith earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Montana in Missoula in June 1988. He received his Master of Business Administration from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, in May 2005. 

 

President, Rachel Solemsaas, North Seattle College 

Dr. Rachel Solemsaas was named president of North Seattle College after serving as interim president beginning in September 2023. Her career spans more than three decades in progressive public service. Dr. Solemsaas’ journey includes 20 years in leadership and administrative roles at community colleges. Before being named interim president for North Seattle College, she served as chancellor of Hawai‘i Community College for seven years. Dr. Solemsaas also served for several years on the NWCCU Board of Commissioners. 

Dr. Solemsaas holds a Doctor of Education with an emphasis on community college leadership from Washington State University, a master’s in public administration from the University of Washington, and a Bachelor of Science in accounting from De La Salle University in Manila, Philippines.

President, Paul Jarrell, Tillamook Bay Community College 

Dr. Paul Jarrell became president of Tillamook Bay Community College on February 9, 2024. Dr. Dr. Jarrell has been at TBCC for a year and a half as the Vice President of Instruction and Student Services. Prior to his time at TBCC, he served as Executive Vice President of Lane Community College. 

Dr. Jarrell has a Ph.D. in biology from the University of Oregon and 30 years of experience in higher education as a faculty member, dean, and vice president.  

 

Interim President, Rebecca “Becky” Johnson, Linfield University 

Dr. Rebecca “Becky” Johnson was appointed interim president of Linfield University on January 1, 2024. became president of Tillamook Bay Community College on February 9, 2024. Dr. Johnson served as Oregon State University’s interim president during the 2021-22 academic year. Before that, she spent 12 years as an OSU vice president and the top administrator at the university’s Cascades Campus in Bend. 

Dr. Johnson holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Wisconsin, and both a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in agricultural economics from Michigan State. 

 

President, Matt Seimears, Lower Columbia College 

Dr. Matt Seimears became president of Lower Columbia College on January 3, 2024. He previously served as the Dean of the College of Education at Eastern Oregon University and was appointed Interim Provost at EOU in 2022. 

Dr. Seimears has a bachelor’s degree from Pittsburg State University, a master’s degree from Wichita State University, a second bachelor’s degree from Newman University, and a Ph.D. from Kansas State University. 

 

President, Robert W. Wagner, Idaho State University 

Dr. Robert W. Wagner became president of Idaho State University on January 29, 2024. He previously served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Utah State University. 

Dr. Wagner holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from State University of New York at Albany, a Master of Public Administration from the University of Utah and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Brigham Young University. He has also completed programs in leadership at Harvard University and Arizona State University.

 

Interim President, Courtney R. White, Utah Tech University 

Dr. Courtney R. White was appointed interim president of Utah Tech University on January 3, 2024. He previously served as the Associate Vice President of Executive Affairs/Chief of Staff and secretary to the Board of Trustees. 

Dr. White earned an associate degree from Snow College, a bachelor’s degree from Utah State University, a master’s degree from the University of Utah, and a law degree from the University of Oregon.

President, Elizabeth “Betsy” R. Cantwell, Utah State University

Dr. Elizabeth “Betsy” R. Cantwell became president of Utah State University on August 1, 2023. Dr. Cantwell previously served as senior vice president for research and innovation at the University of Arizona.

Dr. Cantwell moved to the University of Arizona from Arizona State University, where she served as VP for research development and CEO of the ASU Research Enterprise, a 501.c.3 dedicated to translating research. Prior to Arizona State University, Dr. Cantwell served at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory as director for economic development and director for engineering mission strategy.

Dr. Cantwell is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School (MBA, 2003); the University of California, Berkeley (Ph.D., Mechanical Engineering, 1992); and the University of Chicago (BA, Human Behavior 1976).

 

President, Ann Cudd, Portland State University

Dr. Ann Cudd was named president of Portland State University, effective August 1, 2023. Prior to Portland State, Dr. Cudd served as Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor at the University of Pittsburgh. She also served as Boston University’s Dean of the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

Dr. Cudd holds three advanced degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, including a doctorate of philosophy and master’s degrees in philosophy and economics. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and philosophy from Swarthmore College.

 

Acting President, Sayumi Irey, South Seattle College

Dr. Sayumi Irey became South Seattle College’s acting president on September 1, 2023. Prior to becoming acting president, she served as vice president of instruction at South Seattle College since 2019. She came to South Seattle College from Bellevue College, where she was the interim vice president for diversity.

Dr. Irey holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of Washington.

 

Interim President, Kevin LaCoste, Clatsop Community College

Kevin LaCoste was named interim president of Clatsop Community College, effective August 1, 2023.

Mr. LaCoste spent over two decades as regional president at U.S. Bank in Astoria before retiring last year. He also serves on the college’s budget committee and the Friends of the Astoria Column board. He was elected in May to the Seaside School District Board.

 

President, Kenneth Lawson, Columbia Gorge Community College

Dr. Kenneth Lawson became Columbia Gorge Community College’s president on August 1, 2023. Prior to coming to Columbia Gorge, Dr. Lawson served as the vice president for instruction at Skagit Valley College. He has also served as a full-time faculty and dean of the Social Sciences/Equity and Social Justice division at Shoreline Community College, and dean for the Humanities and Social Sciences at Seattle Central College.

Dr. Lawson has a doctorate in political science from the University of Washington and a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Science in political science from the University of Utah.

 

President, Alvin “Trip” F. Meredith III, Brigham Young University Idaho

Elder Alvin “Trip” F. Meredith III became president of Brigham Young University – Idaho on August 1, 2023. Prior to this appointment, Elder Meredith was serving in the presidency of the Church’s Middle East/Africa North Area and as a member of the Church Educational System Interview Committee. He will continue to serve as a General Authority Seventy.

Elder Meredith holds a Bachelor of Science in psychology from BYU and an MBA in finance from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

 

President, Carli Schiffner, Grays Harbor College

Dr. Carli Schiffner became the president of Grays Harbor College, effective July 3, 2023. She previously served as the deputy executive director of education at the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC).

Prior to her work at the SBCTC, Dr. Schiffner served in progressive leadership positions in Washington State, including Vice President of Instruction at Wenatchee Valley College and Dean of Arts and Sciences at Yakima Valley College, and in New York State as Chief of Staff, Provost, and Interim President at the State University of New York, Canton.

Dr. Schiffner earned a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science from Gonzaga University, a Master of Arts in cultural and intellectual history from Drew University, and a Ph.D. in American History from Washington State University.

 

Interim President, Rachel Solemsaas, North Seattle College

Dr. Rachel Solemsaas has been named interim president of North Seattle College, effective September 16, 2023.

Dr. Solemsaas served as chancellor of Hawai’i Community College on the Big Island for seven years. The college is part of a 10-campus system. She also served as chief financial officer or chief business officer at Truckee Meadows Community College in Nevada, and Bellevue College and Edmonds College in Washington. Prior to joining the community and technical college system, Dr. Solemsaas served Snohomish and King counties in various capacities in finance, related to public government, health and human services. In addition, Dr. Solemsaas served as a member of the NWCCU Board of Commissioners for almost three years.

Dr. Solemsaas earned a doctorate of education with an emphasis on community college leadership from Washington State University and a master’s in public administration from the University of Washington. She earned a bachelor of science in accounting from De La Salle University in Manila.

Chancellor, Kevin Brockbank, Community Colleges of Spokane

Dr. Kevin Brockbank became chancellor of the Community Colleges of Spokane on May 1, 2023. He has dedicated his expertise and commitment to CCS since starting as vice provost of Strategic Partnerships from 2015 to 2017. Following that, he served as president of Spokane Community College from 2017 to 2023.

Before working at CCS, Dr. Brockbank was the dean of the School of Applied Technologies and Professional Development at Salt Lake Community College from 2013 to 2015. He was also interim associate dean and department chair of Industrial Technology at Missoula College, a two-year college affiliated with the University of Montana, from 2011 to 2012.

Dr. Brockbank earned an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, a masters in Curriculum Studies, and a bachelor’s degree in Business and Information Technology all from the University of Montana.

 

President, Matthew Campbell, Pierce College Fort Steilacoom

Dr. Matthew Campbell became the president of Pierce College Fort Steilacoom, effective May 1, 2023. Dr. Campbell previously held the position of Interim President for Pierce College Puyallup and Vice President for Learning and Student Success, Pierce College Puyallup.

Dr. Campbell holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Temple University, a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from University of Washington, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Delaware.

 

President, Chemene Crawford, Everett Community College

Dr. Chemene Crawford was named president of Everett Community College, effective July 1, 2023.

Dr. Crawford was previously president and CEO of North Seattle College. She has worked in higher education for over 30 years, including in roles from full-time faculty member to associate vice chancellor, previously serving at Dallas College and other colleges and universities.

Dr. Crawford earned a doctorate of education in organizational leadership from Nova Southeastern University, a master’s in human resources and organization development, and a bachelor’s of science in organizational behavior, both from University of San Francisco.

 

President, Chio Flores, Pierce College Puyallup

Dr. Chio Flores became the president of Pierce College Puyallup, effective June 1, 2023. Dr. Flores previously held the position of Vice President for Student Services and Enrollment Management at Wenatchee Valley College (WVC).

Dr. Flores holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education and Administration from Washington State University, a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Eastern Washington University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Business from Eastern Washington University.

 

Acting President, Jenni Martin, Spokane Community College

Jenni Martin was selected to be Acting President of Spokane Community College, effective May 1, 2023. Previously, she worked as Vice President of Instruction. She has worked at the Community Colleges of Spokane in various capacities, including dean of Extended Learning, assistant dean of Adult Basic Education, WorkFirst manager, and adjunct faculty.

Prior to working at CCS, she was employed at Eastern Washington University (EWU) as the head women’s soccer coach and also served on the faculty at EWU and CCS. Ms. Martin has a Master of Education degree in Adult Education from EWU and earned a bachelor’s degree in History from Gonzaga University.

 

President, David May, Bellevue College

Dr. David May began his tenure as President at Bellevue College on July 1, 2023. Dr. May was most recently interim president of Eastern Washington University from 2020 until 2022. Before that, he had served as vice provost, interim provost, and then provost and vice president for academic affairs at EWU.

Dr. May holds a Ph.D. in Political Science and MA in Political Science from Washington State University and a BA in Political Science from Whitman College.

 

President, Stacee McIff, Snow College

Stacee McIff became the President of Snow College, effective May 1, 2023. She previously held the position of Interim President of Snow College.

Before she was appointed as interim president, President McIff led the college’s expanded mission into technical education and served as Vice President of Technical Education and Workforce Engagement for two years, after serving for a time as Associate Provost and as Business Department Chair for eight years. She has held a faculty role at the college since 2006.

President McIff holds a bachelor’s degree from Southern Utah University and a master’s degree from Utah State University.

 

Chancellor, Aparna Palmer, University of Alaska Southeast

Dr. Aparna Dileep-Nageswaran Palmer has been appointed to serve as the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS), effective July 1, 2023.

Dr. Palmer previously served as a Vice President at Front Range Community College (FRCC), which is part of the Colorado Community College System (CCCS).

Dr. Palmer holds a Ph.D. in Zoology from Washington State University and a B.S. in Biological Sciences and a B.A. in English from Colorado State University.

 

President, Deana Porterfield, Seattle Pacific University

Dr. Deana Porterfield has been elected as President of Seattle Pacific University, effective July 1, 2023.

Dr. Porterfield previously served as President of Roberts Wesleyan University and Northeastern Seminary at Roberts Wesleyan University.

Dr. Porterfield earned a doctorate in organizational leadership from the University of La Verne in La Verne, CA, a master’s degree in organizational management and a bachelor’s degree in music education from Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, CA.

 

President, Kelly Ryan, Eastern Oregon University

Dr. Kelly Ryan has been elected as President of Eastern Oregon University, effective July 1, 2023.

Dr. Ryan previously served as the interim chancellor at Indiana University Southeast.

Dr. Ryan holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of Maryland, College Park, a Master of Arts in History from Boston College, and a Bachelor of Arts in History from George Mason University.

 

President, C. Shane Reese, Brigham Young University

Dr. C. Shane Reese has been selected as President of Brigham Young University, effective May 1, 2023.

Dr. Reese previously served as the academic vice president at BYU.

Dr. Reese began his career with BYU in 2001, teaching statistics. He eventually became dean of the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences in 2017, before becoming academic vice president in 2019. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from BYU and his doctorate from Texas A&M.

 

President, John Scholz, University of Oregon

Dr. John Scholz been selected as President of University of Oregon, effective July 1, 2023.

Dr. Scholz previously served as provost and professor of economic policy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He served in two United States presidential administrations, working in both the U.S. Treasury Department and the Council of Economic Advisors.

Dr. Scholz graduated from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota and earned his doctorate from Stanford University.

 

Interim President, Jessica Taylor, Multnomah University

Dr. Jessica Taylor has been appointed Interim President of Multnomah University, effective April 20, 2023.

Dr. Taylor previously served as Multnomah’s Vice President of Diversity & Inclusive Development.

Dr. Taylor earned her B.S. in Human Development, her M.A. in Human Services, and her Ph.D. in Christian Counseling.

 

President, John Mark Yeats, Corban University

Dr. John Yeats has been appointed President of Corban University, effective June 1, 2023.

Prior to Corban, Dr. Yeats served as Vice President of Student Services, Dean of Students and Student Success, Title IX Coordinator, and Professor of Church History at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Spurgeon College in Kansas City, Missouri.

Dr. Yeats earned his Ph.D. in Church History from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and also holds degrees from Southern Seminary, Oxford University, Criswell College, and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Interim President, Jean Hernandez, South Seattle College

Dr. Jean Hernandez will serve as the interim president for South Seattle College for the 2022-23 academic year. Dr. Hernandez retired from Edmonds College with the title of president emeritus in 2017 after serving seven years as president. She has earlier connections to South Seattle College, including serving as vice president of instruction and as interim president in 2010.

More recently, Dr. Hernandez has supported South Seattle College in improving student success as a Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges Guided Pathways coach. She currently serves on the Western Governors University Washington Advisory Board, Junior Achievement Washington Board, and University of Colorado Denver, School of Education Program Advisory Committee.

Dr. Hernandez earned her bachelor’s degrees in secondary education and Spanish and her master’s in counseling from the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. She completed her doctorate (Ed.D.) in educational leadership and policy studies at the University of Washington in Seattle.

 

President, James Lemerond, Bellingham Technical College

Dr. James Lemerond is the next president of Bellingham Technical College. Dr. Lemerond has more than 20 years of experience in higher education in a technical college setting. He started at Lakeshore Technical College in Cleveland, WI, as an adjunct faculty in 2001. From there, he transitioned to teaching and managing a medical imaging program in Milwaukee, WI. In 2007, he moved back to Lakeshore Technical College full-time, where he served as radiography program faculty/chair; dean of health and human services; and dean of business, technology, and hospitality. In 2018, he became the vice president of instruction at Lakeshore Technical College.

Dr. Lemerond earned his doctorate of education in education leadership from the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, KY; a master of science in training and development and a bachelor of arts in health arts from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, IL; and an associate of science in radiography from Northcentral Technical College in Wausau, WI.

 

President, Cameron K. Martin, Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions

Dr. Cameron K. Martin was named the second president of Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions (RMU). Before becoming president, Martin worked as vice president of operations and chief of staff for the Office of the President at RMU.

Before joining RMU, Dr. Martin served as vice president of university relations, assistant to the president, and alumni director at Utah Valley University. He also worked as an associate commissioner in the Utah System of Higher Education.

Dr. Martin earned a bachelor’s degree in political science, a master’s degree in public administration, and a Ph.D. in educational leadership, all from Brigham Young University. His doctoral research focus was on the role and organizational value of interim university presidents.

President, Eva Flying, Chief Dull Knife College

Eva M. Flying is the sixth president of Chief Dull Knife College, and the first woman to occupy this role. She is deeply rooted in the Northern Cheyenne community and is a champion of enhancing lives through health and education.

Flying began her postsecondary education in Wyoming at Sheridan College where she received her Associate of Arts degree in General Studies. From there she continued on to Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Exercise Science. In 1999 she returned to Montana and completed her Master of Science degree in Sports Administration at Montana State University-Billings. Flying is working on her Doctorate of Education in Community Colleges, with an emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion from California State University, Stanislaus.

 

President, Yoshiko Harden, Renton Technical College

Dr. Yoshiko Harden is the next president of Renton Technical College. Dr. Harden previously served as Interim President and CEO at Seattle Central Community College.

Dr. Harden is the first woman and the first person of color to serve as president at RTC. Dr. Harden previously served as Vice President of Student Services at Seattle Central College, Vice President for Diversity/Chief Diversity Officer at Bellevue College, and Director of Multicultural Services and Student Development at Highline College. She earned her doctorate in higher education policy from Northeastern University.

 

President, Faimous Harrison, Wenatchee Valley College

Dr. Faimous Harrison is the incoming president of Wenatchee Valley College. Dr. Harrison is expected to begin in January, replacing Dr. Jim Richardson who has served as president for 17 years.

Dr. Harrison comes to WVC from California State University Stanislaus, where he serves as dean of the Stockton campus. Dr. Harrison has more than 20 years of experience working in the Washington state community and technical college system.

Dr. Harrison is a graduate of the University of Washington, where he majored in sociology. He holds a Master’s degree in Health and Physical Education from Seattle Pacific University and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration and Leadership from Oregon State University.

 

President, Jack Kahn, Shoreline Community College

Dr. Jack Kahn is the next president of Shoreline Community College. Dr. Kahn has more than 25 years of experience in higher education and has served as a leader for more than a decade. Most recently, he has been the assistant superintendent/vice president at Palomar College in San Marcos, California. He also previously served as the Palomar Community College District’s interim superintendent/president and was the dean of the division of social and behavioral sciences at Palomar College.

Dr. Kahn earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in philosophy from Arizona State University. He went on to earn a Master of Arts in marriage and family counseling from San José State University before attending the State University of New York at Buffalo to earn a doctorate in counseling psychology.
