The excitement in the air is undeniable in Blue Valley. Dr. Todd White has been named the next superintendent of Blue Valley Schools. The Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of White at a special board meeting Tuesday morning.
The search began after 11-year Superintendent Dr. Tom Trigg accepted a superintendent position in Texas. The board named Deputy Superintendent Dr. Al Hanna interim superintendent and hired search firm, Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates, to facilitate the national search process that included input from more than 1,100 students, parents, staff and community members.
“It was important for us to find a leader who shared our community’s values and goals,” said Mike Seitz, Board of Education president. “No one we met was a better fit to lead Blue Valley Schools than Todd White. He is the right choice to take us to the next level of achievement.”
Dr. White’s experience in educational leadership spans three decades and includes a combined 13 years as a superintendent for the Harrisonville School District (2,500 students) and North Kansas City School District (19,500 students). White has a proven track-record. Under his leadership, rapid improvements in student achievement and graduation rates earned him the Missouri Superintendent of the Year (MIPA) in 2015 and Outstanding Superintendent in 2013 from the Missouri Association of School Administrators (MASA). His reputation for success also earned him accolades from the community. In 2014, he was awarded the Richard Noll Award of Excellence in Government Service by Northland Neighborhoods, Inc. for his understanding that strong neighborhoods build strong schools. White was also named the 2015 Missouri Interscholastic Press Association Administrator of the Year for providing outstanding service to journalism.
White has three children and three grandchildren. “It is an honor and privilege to serve the Blue Valley Schools community and students,” White said. “My wife and I are excited about immersing ourselves in this amazing community and culture of excellence.”
White will be the seventh superintendent in Blue Valley’s 50-year history when he assumes the role March 1.
“It is abundantly clear that a shared focus and collaborative spirit exists between staff, students, board and community,” White said. “The synergy that is present today in Blue Valley is a tribute to the past and is the key to student success in the future.”
A reception is planned for Wednesday, Feb. 24 from 4-5:30 p.m. at Hilltop Conference Center, 7700 W. 143rd Street, Overland Park, Kansas. The reception is open to the public.
